The second Música Académica Latinoamericana festival is being held right now at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina. One of the headliners is the pianist and Villa-Lobos scholar Luiz De Moura Castro; another is guitarist Isabel Siewers. Both play concerts focussing on Villa-Lobos in this Ano VL.
The highlight of the festival is the final concert, with conductor Ricardo Rocha conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica and the Coro de Niños y Jóvenes of UNCuyo, with cellist Matías Villafañe. Featured will be three fairly rare works: the Nonetto, Choros #06, and the Fantasia for Cello & Orchestra, which seems to be in vogue right now in concert.
